The Garvan Research Foundation is the fundraising and marketing arm of the Institute, raising vital funds and awareness to enable discoveries that lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatments, and cures.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Content Marketing Officer to take ownership of Garvan's social media and content strategy. This senior role blends strategic oversight with hands-on creativity, offering the chance to shape content that inspires action and connects audiences to Garvan's mission, and offers clear opportunities for leadership growth.

You'll lead the overhaul of Garvan's social media presence (organic and paid), aligning content across the Foundation and Institute, and mentoring a talented content producer.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead Garvan's content and social media strategy across organic and paid channels, in collaboration with our communications team and digital marketing lead
  • Shape and manage the content calendar, aligning messaging across teams
  • Translate complex medical research into engaging, audience-friendly content
  • Produce high-quality multimedia content (copy, video, graphics, photography)
  • Collaborate with researchers, agencies, and fundraising teams to amplify impact
  • Provide performance insights, content trends and campaign reporting to guide decision-making
  • Mentor and support your direct report, fostering collaboration and creativity

About You

You're a creative and collaborative content leader with your finger on the pulse of digital trends. You'll bring both strategic thinking and hands-on content skills, with the ability to align messaging across teams and channels.

You'll be a great fit if you have:

  • 3+ years in content marketing, digital marketing, or social media strategy (organic + paid)
  • Experience producing and managing multimedia content across platforms
  • Strong knowledge of tools such as Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, CMS platforms, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Campaign experience, including oversight of agency-delivered paid campaigns
  • The ability to analyse content performance and translate insights into action
  • A collaborative, team-focused style - open, communicative and aligned
  • Leadership experience (or the aspiration to grow into it)

Highly regarded: Experience working in science, health, medical or not-for-profit environments, and the ability to translate complex research into clear, inspiring content.
