A bit about the role

If you are an experienced nurse looking to roll up your sleeves and make a big impact in the lives of vulnerable, at-risk individuals in your community, this is the role for you.

The After-Hours Outreach Service (AHOS) team at The Living Room utilises an assertive outreach model to assist adults with complex health needs who are primarily vulnerable, sleeping rough, living in insecure accommodation or accessing social services in Melbourne.

As one of our Outreach Enrolled Nurses, you will provide street-based health care to our clients and provide service referrals as necessary. You will start and end your shifts at The Living Room but will work across Melbourne CBD. Shifts commence at 4pm and continue until 11pm.

Key Requirements:

  • Enrolled Nurse with AHPRA registration
  • Experience and/or demonstrated commitment to working with homeless and marginalised populations experiencing psychiatric, medical and substance use conditions within a harm reduction model of care
  • Available for shifts between 3pm – 11pm, Wednesday – Sunday

Now let's talk about you

You are an engaging and empathic Enrolled Nurse with over 3 years of experience in mental health, ED, Community Health or a similar industry and you are strongly committed to the social model of health and trauma informed principals of care.

You have experience working with people experiencing homelessness or marginalised populations with psychiatric, medical and substance use conditions within a harm reduction model of care.

Your passion for achieving health and well-being outcomes for people that are experiencing or at risk of homelessness is contagious, the prospect of doing outreach with some of Melbournes most vulnerable people excites you

A bit about us

The Living Room is a primary health service. The team works with people aged 18+ to provide free healthcare and support to improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of individuals who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

The only service of its kind in Melbourne, it focuses on the social determinants of health to look beyond disease or illness to see a person's overall situation. Our multidisciplinary team works with individuals to identify goals and focus on harm minimisation, self-determination, and empowerment through a holistic model of care.

Our non-judgemental service strongly focuses on respect, client-centred care and harm prevention. We work with clients on a personalised, tailored basis to address highly complex issues faced by people experiencing multiple and complex needs. Youth Projects is an independent, registered charity that provides front-line support to young people and individuals experiencing disadvantage, unemployment, homelessness, and alcohol and other drug issues. We recognise the complex and varying needs of the people we work with and go above and beyond, 365 days a year, to provide pathways out of poverty.
