ADA Australia is currently seeking an Advocate for its new Yarn'n Strong ILC (Information, Linkages and Capacity Building) project who share our values and passion for social justice for all.

About the Role

In this newly created exciting role you'll be part of a new team that will deliver culturally appropriate and safe information, group activities, self-advocacy support and training to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability.

Working in community you'll be promoting and delivering the Yarn'n Strong program across the region, which aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability, their family, carers and broader community, enhance their awareness of their rights and have the skills, knowledge and confidence to exercise those rights, particularly through building capacity to self-advocate.

Key responsibilities include


• Provide input and feedback into the design and delivery of Yarn'n Strong program activities and resources.


• Deliver engaging group activities and individual support/ training in the community.


• Respectfully engage and work collaboratively with community, community leaders and other stakeholders in the delivery of project activities.


• Accurately complete all administration tasks.


• Ensure that all service targets are met or exceeded.


• Identify service gaps for continuous improvement.


• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector and legislation.

About you


• Tertiary qualified in social work / health / community or human services or relevant experience.


• Strong community connections and culturally respectful practices.


• A lived experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, people or people with disability.


• Experience presenting and communicating with groups and individuals.


• Experience working within the disability sector and advocacy practices.


• Good knowledge of social justice frameworks, human rights legislation and complaints process mechanisms.


• Solid problem-solving skills with a solution focus.


• Engaging communication skills and empathetic interpersonal skills.


• Effective computer (client databases) and administration skills.

Essential requirements


• Valid Australian Driver's license.


• Current (within 3 years old) National Criminal History Certificate.


• Valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.


• Valid Working with Children/Blue Card.


• Willingness to travel to regional areas outside normal working hours as required (including overnight trips on occasion).
