ABOUT US

Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Tjungu (together) team provides support, advocacy and care coordination to ngaltutjara tjuta – people with disabilities, elderly people, and their carers & families. Tjungu was chosen as the title for the program to reflect the fact that aged, disability and mental health issues often overlap ad require workers and families to meet these challenges together. Tjungu philosophy and principles support the rights of older Anangu people and people with disabilities to live in their community so that family and relationships can be maintained and spiritual and physical connections with country are continued.

ABOUT THE ROLE

NPY Women's Council (NPYWC) will work in partnership with Anangu elders living in the NPY Lands and Territory Palliative Care Central Australia (TPC CA) to identify and strengthen ways to support elders to talk about their care worries and plan for their wishes as they age and for In the remote Aboriginal communities of Central Australia people hold traditional beliefs and a cultural worldview, tempered to some extent by contact with mainstream services. The practicalities of talking about Palliative Care for family members and understanding the wishes of someone who is dying or has died is not a usual practice and can lead to a stressful time for families once the person has died. Underpinning this project will be the strengthening of systems and the development of appropriate resources that are codesigned with older Aboriginal Australians to assist with making informed decisions about dyingthose who are not going to get better (Advanced Care Planning).

ABOUT YOU

You will have Tertiary qualifications and / or a minimum of three years' experience in a health, community services or related field. You will also have the ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, including working in partnership with other NPYWC staff and taking direction.

In addition to this we offer a generous remuneration package.
