Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia IRT Group Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year
About IRT

Founded in 1969, IRT's mission was to provide better options in housing and care for older people. Now 50 years later, our purpose remains the same.

We improve the lives of more than 9100 people every day in NSW, the ACT and Qld. We're one of Australia's largest community-owned providers of independent living, aged care and home care. We're proud to have more than 40 communities and home care service hubs in NSW, the ACT and Qld.

IRT is an equal opportunity employer. We find excellence in diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.  We are proud of our culture and employ people across a diverse range of occupations, backgrounds and skills, who are passionate and committed to creating a better world for all older Australians.

About the Role

The Assistant Development Manager will assist in the planning, execution, and management of property development projects. The role requires a strong background in construction management, property development, or project management.

This role will ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all relevant regulations and quality standards.

As an Assistant Development Manager, you will play a key role in supporting Development Managers and overseeing a diverse portfolio of property projects, from large-scale developments valued between $30 million and $400 million, to an ongoing minor capital works program exceeding $10 million annually. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across all phases of the development lifecycle, from concept through to delivery and handover.

Your work will directly contribute to the revitalisation and transformation of IRT's aged care centres, independent living communities, and supporting facilities across NSW, Queensland and the ACT. The role includes assisting in the planning and execution of complex refurbishments, new residential construction, infrastructure upgrades, and compliance-driven improvements.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Supporting Development Managers with the delivery of multiple concurrent projects across our major developments and capital works portfolios
  • Coordinating day-to-day project operations including scheduling, site inspections, budget tracking, procurement, and reporting
  • Collaborating with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and keep projects moving
  • Ensuring construction works comply with relevant planning approvals, regulations, and environmental standards
  • Identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies and ensuring works are delivered on time and within budget
  • Supporting tender processes, documentation management, and quality control procedures
  • Helping to ensure seamless communication between project teams, contractors, suppliers, and senior management

This role is ideal for someone with a keen eye for detail and a passion for improving built environments for community benefit. You'll gain exposure to a broad range of asset types — including aged care facilities, independent living apartments, and ancillary amenities — while working with a team of highly experienced property professionals.

To Be Successful You Will Have
  • Tertiary and/or Postgraduate qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Real Estate Development, Project Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction management, property development, or project management, with a solid understanding of the property development lifecycle
  • Experience in managing or supporting the execution of construction projects (residential, commercial, or mixed-use) is preferred
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project and Argus EstateMaster)
  • Familiarity with construction scheduling, budgeting, and cost management
  • Knowledge of construction processes and techniques
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Results-driven, with a focus on cost-effective solutions without compromising quality
  • Strong focus on ensuring that construction work meets the project's requirements
Benefits for You
  • Competitive pay and more cash in your pocket (less tax) with not-for-profit salary packaging
  • Flexible working conditions
  • Birthday leave - relax and take a day off on us
  • Professional and career development opportunities
  • Multiple career pathways
