Burraneer Bay Public School P&C Association is seeking a dynamic, organised and community-minded Canteen Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our school canteen and provide critical support during peak periods to our uniform shop. This role is perfect for balancing a family, covering the hours Monday to Friday 8am - 2.30pm (term time only), with some earlier starts on key event or high-volume days.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and grow a much-loved school service. We are looking for someone who cares about being part of a caring school community, and who can balance business objectives with pastoral care objectives.
The successful applicant would ideally have previous hospitality experience (though, customer service experience is transferrable if accompanied by a love of cooking) and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment, managing a small team of casual staff and volunteers and producing a high volume of orders each day. They will also work well with the P&C Executive, school staff, and volunteer non-cooks, as parent volunteers are vital to our canteen's operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing daily canteen operations (stock management, food preparation, customer service, lunch orders, hygiene and safety)
- Coordinating and supporting volunteers and casual staff
- Managing stock levels, ordering, and minimising waste
- Cooking and preparing delicious and nutritious food
- Overseeing daily takings, invoicing, and working with the Treasurer on key financial tasks
- Providing support to the uniform shop team on similar tasks (e.g. during leave periods)
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, reliable, and able to work independently
- Experienced in food handling and safe kitchen practices
- Hold (or be willing to obtain) a current NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (we will support you to complete this if needed)
- Highly organised and confident with basic stock and financial systems
- Experienced with computerised and online ordering systems
- Willingness to be flexible and work across both canteen and uniform shop services during leave periods.
- Great with people - especially volunteers, families, and children - and comfortable managing a group of volunteers and dealing with customer service enquiries.
- Passionate about contributing to a vibrant school community
A valid Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain) is essential. Familiarity with school environments, community groups, or canteen work is an advantage — but we're open to anyone with the right attitude and experience.
