Lead the Future of Passive Radar & Advanced Sensing

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Engineer is a pivotal executive role that leads Silentium Defence's engineering capability driving people, process, and technical excellence across hardware, software, and data disciplines.

You will evolve and mature a multidisciplinary engineering organisation, embedding scalable systems, disciplined governance, and a culture of continuous improvement to sustain global growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering and technical teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver and execute the technical vision and engineering strategy aligned with corporate growth objectives.
  • Oversee the full product lifecycle — from research, design, and development through testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Embed risk-based governance across engineering operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and ISO/MIL-SPEC quality assurance.
  • Integrate technology, design, and manufacturing partnerships to drive scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Partner with the CEO, ELT, and Supply Chain to align engineering delivery with business objectives and operational excellence.
  • Develop frameworks and systems that enable innovation, effective decision-making, and organisational accountability.
  • Leverage data-driven insights to enhance product performance and customer value.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1)

About You:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering; PhD highly regarded.
  • Senior engineering executive with a proven record leading large, cross-functional teams within complex-systems industries such as Defence, Aerospace, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated strength in governance, quality, and export-control compliance.
  • Strategic thinker who aligns technical delivery with business objectives and organisational growth.
  • Recognised for integrity, ethical leadership, and sound judgment in high-stakes decision-making.
  • Motivated by developing others and embedding scalable, high-performance capability.

Eligibility:

  1. Ability to obtain and maintain a federal police check
  2. Australian Citizenship is a condition of eligibility
  3. Ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a higher clearance if required.
