The Technical Specialist is responsible for overseeing the legal compliance of the self-insured workers' compensation program. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, analysing data, and developing case managers.
Responsibilities and duties
Claims Management:- Oversee the processing and management of workers' compensation claims in accordance with the law and the principles of administrative justice and sound and proper decision making.
- Utilise analytical skills and industry knowledge to make sound and proper liability decisions and manage the appeals process.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Analyse claims data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare reports for management on key metrics.
- Develop and implement procedures related to evidence gathering, assessment and decision making, promoting best practices in claims handling.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on technical matters relating to claims.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on workers' compensation processes, regulations, and practices.
Required skills, experience and qualifications
Education:- Bachelor's degree in legal process, business administration, insurance, or a related field desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers' compensation, preferably in a self-insured environment. Management experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations is essential.
- Detail-oriented and organised.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong leadership and team collaboration skills.
