Road Maintenance Officer

Hume City Council| Monday to Friday | 6:30am-3:30pm

About the Role

We're seeking a proactive and experienced Road Maintenance Officer to join Hume City Council's dedicated Infrastructure Maintenance team. You'll play a vital role in keeping Hume's road networks safe, clean, and structurally sound for our growing community.

This is a hands-on role focused on asphalt and road signage repairs, general road infrastructure maintenance, and operation of heavy vehicles and plant. If you're passionate about outdoor work, community safety, and making a visible impact - this is your opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out asphalt patching, road repairs, and routine signage maintenance

  • Drive and operate Council vehicles and road maintenance plant (e.g. backhoes, excavators, etc.)

  • Conduct regular inspections and perform preventative maintenance on roads, drainage, signage, and bridges

  • Erect and maintain safety signage, barriers, and traffic control measures according to Victorian standards

  • Maintain daily work records, contribute to asset condition reporting, and assist in program development

What You'll Need

  • White Card (Construction Induction Card)

  • Relevant experience in road maintenance

  • Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence and General Driver's Licence

  • Sound knowledge of municipal road maintenance standards and OH&S practices

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused attitude

  • Ability to plan and prioritise daily tasks, including working independently

  • Willingness to participate in after-hours on-call duties when required

Desirable (not essential):

  • Forklift Licence

  • Demonstrated experience operating plant such as graders, backhoes, and loaders

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction

  • Competency certificates for plant operation
