About the role

Are you a motivated legal professional looking to contribute your expertise to a dynamic and high impact team? We're looking for a seasoned legal associate to join our team at the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport.

As an Associate, you will provide timely, practical, and solutions focused legal support to staff across the Department, undertaking in depth legal research, interpreting legislation, and analysing evidence to deliver accurate and consistent advice on matters relating to regulation, prosecutions, and administrative law.

You will be responsible for drafting and preparing a wide range of legal documents, including advice, court pleadings, statements of fact, and submissions, as well as managing litigation files, appearing at mentions and sentencing hearings, and briefing counsel where required.

Through this work, you will directly contribute to the Department's mission of upholding integrity, fairness, and compliance within the liquor and gaming sectors.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • 1 to 3 years post qualification experience in one or more of the following areas prosecutions, criminal law, regulatory or administrative law
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality outcomes under pressure
  • A collaborative approach, responsiveness to client timeframes, excellent communication skills both written and verbal and attention to detail and analytical skills

Essential requirements:

  • Admitted or qualified for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW and hold, or be eligible to hold, a NSW Practicing Certificate.
