Nurse Manager, Perioperative Services

• Permanent Full time role opportunity for an experienced Nurse Manager to lead our Anaesthetics and Perfusion Team within Perioperative Services at Macquarie University Hospital

• Competitive base salary from $148,203 (Nurse Manager - Grade 3) as per the Enterprise Agreement. The Role

Macquarie University Health is recruiting for an experienced health professional to join the Perioperative Services team as a Nurse Manager.  This role is an essential part of the leadership team, as you will oversee all anaesthetics, recovery and perfusion services delivered to patients at Macquarie University Hospital.  As the Nurse Manager, you will coordinate the delivery of safe, efficient and high-quality clinical care, all in an effort of providing exceptional operational excellence for our patients.

This position will also provide you with an opportunity to closely collaborate with a range of medical professionals including Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Theatre Management, and Nurse Unit Managers. Your involvement in these partnerships will help build positive patient outcomes, staff engagement and ensure optimal clinical performance across all Perioperative Services. You will manage a large team, with a focus on operational and strategic enhancements across Anaesthetics and Perfusion services, support workforce development and overall quality improvements.

In this role, you will provide mentorship and leadership to nurses and work with Clinical Nurse Educators on building training outcomes that grow collaborative and cohesive clinical team practices.

To be considered for this position, please demonstrate the following in your CV and a 1–2-page cover letter:

• Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration

• Significant experience in a perioperative leadership role (Anaesthetics, Recovery, or similar)

• Demonstrated understanding of Surgical Key Performance Indicators

• Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills with the ability to inspire and support professional growth

• Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities, including experience working with Anaesthetists, Surgeons and multidisciplinary teams

• Proven ability to manage change, resolve complex clinical and operational issues, and lead quality improvement initiatives

• Knowledge of blood management and perfusion service coordination is highly desirable

• Demonstrated ability to manage rosters, leave planning, and workforce development

• Understanding of information systems and IT tools used in perioperative settings (e.g. TrakCare or similar)

• Evidence of strategic thinking and operational planning experience

• Commitment to fostering a culture of evidence-based care, innovation and continuous improvement

• Sound knowledge of the relevant industrial awards, WHS and HR practices

You may also have to satisfy MQ Health that you meet all background checks (including criminal record and qualification checks).
