The Role

Pacific Energy is restructuring its Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) functions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. As part of this transformation, we have created the role of Principal Advisor – Contractor Safety.

In this key position, the successful candidate will play a vital role in overseeing contractor onboarding and management while providing essential support to contractor holders.

This full-time, permanent role offers the advantage of a 9-day fortnight and presents a unique opportunity to drive improvements in safety culture, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, execute, and support contractor prequalification processes, verifying that contractors meet company HSE standards prior to engagement.
  • Support the design and implementation comprehensive onboarding and induction materials for contractors, ensuring a thorough understanding of site-specific risks, controls, and operational expectations.
  • Collaborate with contract holders to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks associated with contractor activities.
  • Review, support, and provide oversight for safety investigations related to contractor incidents, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective measures are effectively implemented.
  • Deliver expert guidance on contractor safety management, offering strategic support to contract holders, project managers, and supervisors.
  • Conduct regular site visits and engagement activities to strengthen HSE expectations, fostering a culture of safety and compliance among contractors.
  • Perform second-line audits and reviews of contractor safety performance, ensuring adherence to management plans and regulatory requirements.

About You:

  • Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive experience in contractor safety management.
  • Strong knowledge of safety legislation, risk management, and contractor management frameworks.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experienced in incident investigation, auditing, and safety performance reporting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
