Primary objective

Provide a high level of advice and support to facilitate the delivery of effective and efficient accounting, finance and taxation

services.

Context statement

The Finance Services branch provides strategic financial, budget and accounting advisory services to executive management and

the regional health services across the department. The team is responsible for the provision of financial services, financial

reporting, budget development and monitoring.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide a high standard of client focused advice, financial services including financial reports to all levels of the department.

2. Month end processing including reconciliations and accruals to enable the provision of timely and accurate financial

information.

3. Contribute to the development and implementation of financial accounting policies, procedures, and practices.

4. Ensure the department's financial accounting records are maintained in accordance with accounting standards and the

Treasurer's Directions.

5. Contribute to building financial management capacity across the department to drive responsible and transparent financial

and budget management that supports operational objectives while maintaining strong internal controls.

  1. Develop and implement strategies to ensure compliance with financial and taxation legislation, policies, and procedures.
  2. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Experience in preparation, and analysis of financial reports and reconciliation of financial data.

2. Extensive knowledge and understanding of accrual accounting concepts.

3. Knowledge of the Goods and Services Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax and Payroll Tax legislation and experience in their application

to government entities.

  1. Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail in a fast-

paced environment.

5. Demonstrated analytical and lateral thinking abilities in a financial environment, solution focused, commercial acumen, self-

motivation and a positive outlook.

  1. Demonstrated proficiency and experience with standard office information technology programs, including Microsoft Word,

Excel, and accounting software.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce or business, and membership of a relevant professional accounting body.

2. Knowledge of the Government Accounting System.
