About the position:

The Supporting Adolescent Boys Trial is a national early intervention trial for young men and adolescent boys aged 12-18 years who present with adverse childhood experiences including family and domestic violence and who are using or at risk of using family, domestic or sexual violence (FDSV).

The Program:


• supports participants' recovery and healing from their experience of family and domestic violence


• helps participants to avoid choosing to use FDSV, and


• builds the evidence base on effective approaches to supporting young men and boys exposed to family and domestic violence to reduce the risk of them using FDSV.

The Trial will support the long-term outcomes of the National Plan including:


• services and prevention programs are effective, culturally responsive, intersectional and accessible.


• people who choose to use violence are accountable for their actions and stop their violent, coercive and abusive behaviours.


• children and young people are safe in all settings and are effectively supported by systems and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual therapeutic support and casework responses for individual clients in the target population.
  • Provide appropriate advocacy for clients to have access to culturally appropriate support, education, resources and services so that personal development and self-worth of clients is promoted.
  • Be proactive in advocating on behalf of individuals and liaise regularly with consortium agencies and other service providers for a collaborative approach in supporting clients.
  • Ensure that service provision has a strong focus on improving outcomes for all clients and/or families.
  • Undertake risk assessments and safety planning that promotes the wellbeing of young men and their families
  • Promote and implement quality service responses that are underpinned and informed by CCCSA, KWY and UCSA values and service delivery model.
  • Develop and deliver services that are relevant, culturally appropriate and accessible to all client groups.
  • Organise and plan community events and engagement activities.
  • Utilise flexible service modalities to respond effectively and promptly to individual circumstances to support safety.

About you:

The successful applicant will possess skills, experience, and knowledge in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to address Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence concerns. The applicant will operate within a therapeutic, trauma-informed framework. The applicant would have demonstrated knowledge of case management and working with Aboriginal families.

Job requirements:

  • You must hold a current South Australian Driver's License or a license which permits you to drive in South Australia (and be willing to drive a service vehicle).
  • You must be willing to travel to other regional SA locations when required either by car or via an airline, including flying to Adelaide for training and All Staff meetings.
  • Successful candidates will be required to clear and maintain probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check (Police Clearance), Working with Vulnerable People Check and Working with Children Check (applicants need to hold a current WWCC to apply). You must have a current WWCC to apply.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications in the domestic, family and sexual violence, youth justice and child protection sectors. This includes a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a Diploma in Community Services, Human Services, Health Sciences, and/or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of issues pertaining to homelessness, addiction, and mental health.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Narrative Principles of Practice with emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of restorative approaches to practice
