Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
Leading the team that owns Canva's internal feature flagging and progressive delivery platform
Leading a talented team of backend and frontend engineers, creating the conditions for them to thrive.
Defining and evolving the strategy of our Feature Control platform, working conjointly with other teams of the group to connect with related services.
Partnering with data and product leaders to ensure measurement is embedded into launches
Owning the technical roadmap and delivery for Canva's rollout and flags infrastructure.
Collaborating with engineering leaders to promote safe deployment patterns across Canva.
You'll advocate for and implement observability and health monitoring across rollouts.
You'll build strong relationships with other platform teams to integrate safely into Canva's stack.
You're probably a match if you
Have led engineering teams across both frontend and backend infrastructure
Bring deep technical expertise in feature flagging, rollout systems, or developer platforms
Are comfortable coaching engineers across the stack and guiding architectural decisions that scale
Have experience with modern, polyglot environments—at Canva, we primarily use Java, Go, TypeScript, GraphQL and, AWS
Love mentoring and have a track record of helping people grow and thrive
Think like a product partner, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impact
Communicate clearly—whether unpacking technical decisions or aligning stakeholders
Thrive in ambiguity, set clear direction, and bring others along on the journey
About the team
The Feature Control team sits within the Product Insights Enablement (PIE) group and plays a critical role to rollout changes safely to our 200M+ users. We provide tools and infrastructure to gradually roll out new features. Our mission is to help every team at Canva ship with confidence. From rollout infrastructure to feature flags, we're building the systems that support safe, scalable product development across the company. We partner deeply with product, data, and engineering to power a safe, data-informed, experimentation-forward culture at Canva.
About the Role/Specialty
As the Engineering Manager for Feature Control, you'll lead the team responsible for building our internal platform for feature flagging and progressive delivery. You'll guide the technical direction, elevate engineering craft, and support the growth of a team of talented engineers. Your leadership will directly shape how Canva delivers product innovation to users – enabling teams to launch new features with precision and safety.
