Senior Financial Accountant

Overview Saunders International is a leading, Australian-based ASX-listed company, committed to providing engineering and construction services to the energy, defence, infrastructure and resource sectors. We are focused on safety and have over 70 years of experience with projects across bulk liquid storage and distribution infrastructure, bridge engineering and construction, infrastructure remediation, technical EPCM services and industrial electrical/process automation solutions. The Senior Financial Accountant role is based at Saunders International HQ in Rhodes, Sydney.
The role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Finance ERP system and ensuring full compliance with statutory financial reporting and taxation obligations, including accurate and timely month-end close.
The Role Ensure efficient and effective month end close that meets the timetable deadlines.
Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations for the group.
Assist with the half-yearly and year-end statutory audit.
Complete and review all general journals.
Prepare and review statutory tax returns; ensure returns are lodged and paid within deadlines.
Ensure Australian Accounting Standards and policies are adhered to.
Reconcile intercompany transactions monthly and confirm agreement with business units.
Liaise with external parties including banks, auditors and the ATO.
Drive continuous process improvement and system enhancement initiatives.
About You Qualified Accountant (CA/CPA) with a strong technical accounting background and a minimum of 8 years of financial accounting experience.
Experience in preparation of GST and FBT returns.
Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail and a methodical approach.
Problem-solving skills with a strong track record of critical and analytical thinking.
Positive 'can do' attitude, flexible and adaptable.
Appetite to develop or change processes and systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the business, with a focus on the finance function.
Previous experience in leading a small finance team.
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Strong Microsoft Office skills and accounting software package knowledge.
Desirable Experience in the Construction or Engineering Industry.
Experience using Jobpac ERP and Xero.
