As Associate Director, Government Affairs & Relations , you will report to the Director of Government Relations and play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation's engagement with government, parliament, and political stakeholders. This includes preparing responses to parliamentary questions on notice, Senate Estimates, and ministerial briefings, as well as contributing to broader government relations strategy and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
Work across multiple ministerial portfolios and high-profile government campaigns
Build relationships with senior stakeholders across government, industry, and investment
Contribute to bipartisan engagement and strategic outreach
Be part of a collaborative, non-hierarchical team culture
Key Responsibilities
Support government-facing activities including briefings, requests for information, and parliamentary processes
Prepare high-quality written materials including responses to Questions on Notice, Senate Estimates, and ministerial briefings
Build and maintain relationships with ministerial offices, departments, and other political stakeholders
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise internal stakeholders
Contribute to strategic government relations planning and bipartisan engagement
Assist with stakeholder events, including site tours and parliamentary functions
Assist in managing sensitive issues or public policy disputes involving government stakeholders, supporting the coordination of FOI responses and document requests
Work with communications teams to develop messaging and content that supports government engagement
Maintain a forward schedule of planned government engagements and ensure proactive coordination
Contribute written content for newsletters, social media, or website as needed
About You
You are a senior government relations professional with experience navigating complex, high-impact subject matter. You may come from a policy, communications, or public affairs background and are comfortable working in ambiguity, identifying issues early, and responding with clarity and precision.
You Bring
Proven experience in government relations, public affairs, or policy
Familiarity with parliamentary processes including Senate Estimates and Questions on Notice
Background in policy analysis or legislative affairs, with experience monitoring and analysing legislative and regulatory developments
Experience advocating for policies and regulations that align with organisational objectives
Experience working across multiple stakeholders and portfolios
Strong writing and communication skills
A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with no ego
Australian citizenship
Experience working with technically complex subject matter — whether in government, investment, finance, trade, or industry development. Exposure to financial services or investment environments is beneficial but not essential
This permanent role is ideal for someone based in Canberra, though candidates in Sydney or Melbourne will also be considered. You'll be joining a team that values curiosity, collaboration, and action — and where individuals are empowered to contribute meaningfully to national outcomes.
