Rail Operations Technical Advisor
Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel to, from and through Brisbane in the future. It will be a catalyst for 10 years of wider rail transformation across the whole of South East Queensland and it is already playing a key role in how we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class 'ETCS' signalling system.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on one of Australia's largest infrastructure projects and to be a part of something that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
About the Role
The Rail Operations Technical Advisor is responsible for ensuring infrastructure delivered by the Cross River Rail project achieves its required operational outcomes. This includes consideration of the Cross River Rail's integration into the wider South East Queensland rail network and potential impacts on its operational functionality. Key considerations include the influence and impacts of the design and delivery of Cross River Rail infrastructure (e.g. civil, track, signalling and other systems) on capacity, headways, journey times, possessions, rollingstock, network and stabling operations.
The position works closely with and is a key interface between CRRDA Project Delivery teams and the project stakeholders (Department of Transport and Main Roads, and Queensland Rail) to ensure that parties are aligned and agree on operational outcomes and how they are achieved through the design and delivery phases of the project.
Key to the position will be the comprehension of technical rail information, coordination between various stakeholders and providing concise and effective reporting and communication regarding impacts of design changes as applicable to business, customer, operational and delivery outcomes.
The position reports to the Operational Integration Manager and is part of the Customer and Network Integration team. This opportunity is a maternity leave cover and will be offered as a ten month contract.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Ensure the operational outcomes for the Project remain aligned to the CRR Business Case and Sponsor requirements and are reflected in delivery and design decisions.
- Prepare reports, presentations, submissions and correspondence on outcomes impacting operational requirements and/or change processes from a technical engineering context.
- Work collaboratively with SMEs and other technical advisors to develop operational responses, plans and strategies.
- Proactively identify risks, issues and opportunities, and develop mitigation strategies as required.
- Participate in workshops and meetings with key stakeholders to ensure agreed operational requirements and outcomes are considered.
**About You**:
- Experience supporting the coordination and management of infrastructure project delivery within rail or other transport network/systems.
- Ability to critically analyse and interpret information based on various sources (including technical track design and operational documentation) and develop clear and concise technical advice and strategic concepts on rail operations.
- Sound knowledge of rail operations (and the interface with track and civil concepts) supported by relevant engineering qualifications or extensive rail operations experience.
- Previous experience in risk and issues management including identification and mitigation strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
