Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel to, from and through Brisbane in the future. It will be a catalyst for 10 years of wider rail transformation across the whole of South East Queensland and it is already playing a key role in how we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class 'ETCS' signalling system.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on one of Australia's largest infrastructure projects and to be a part of something that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
About the Role
The Rail Telecommunications Advisor provides technical advice and support to the Delivery Authority to support the delivery of rail systems technology products, services and activities to the Cross River Rail and related projects such as European Train Control System (ETCS) focusing on the integration of these projects into the existing rail infrastructure environment. You will be responsible for the oversight of the deployment of rail systems technology products and deliverables performed by the Delivery Authority's construction partners and suppliers ensuring contract obligations are met and required engineering approaches are followed throughout the system lifecycle.
The Telecommunications advisor will also support systems engineering and technical governance processes to ensure change control and verification/validation processes are developed, maintained, reported and delivered. Reporting to the Technical Manager, Technical Integration this opportunity is offered as a 3-year duration employment contract.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Provide specialist engineering services and technical advice including strategic direction, interpretation of requirements and standards, key risks and issues, project changes, and regulatory environment expectations.
- Review compliance to project requirements and standards on telecommunications systems.
- Perform change management impact assessment for changes to telecommunications requirements or design.
- Support the resolution of technical issues related to telecommunications systems.
- Liaise, collaborate, and coordinate with the relevant stakeholders (including within the Delivery Authority, Suppliers, Queensland Rail and other stakeholders) to ensure the telecommunications obligations are being performed.
- Review Supplier program and reporting on telecommunications system implementation.
- Ensure that telecommunications systems risks and issues are identified, assessed, communicated and resolved quickly and efficiently.
About You
The successful applicant will ideally hold most of the following competencies and experience:
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, work independently and adapt to meet sudden changes in expectations, priorities, and deadlines.
- Strategic capabilities with sufficient acumen to balance commercial, technical, and project objectives and constraints.
- Substantial knowledge and experience with telecommunications technology, products, systems and services including Data Radio System (based on GSM-R), Enhanced Radio System (based on DMR), Fixed Telecommunications Network (optical fibre, IP networks) and related systems such as Public Address / Passenger information, access control and CCTV within a rail environment.
- Highly developed relationship management with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills with demonstrated ability to provide clear and concise written and verbal communication and produce clearly articulated briefings and reports.
- Qualifications in engineering/or telecommunications or related discipline.
