The Planning Program in the School of Built Environment is looking for an outstanding teaching and research academic to join our team. The Program offers degrees in City Planning at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and working together with the City Futures Research Centre, represents one of the foremost centres for urban planning research and education in Australia. Awarded a ‘5’ In the 2012, 2015 and 2018 ERA assessments in the ‘1205’ (now 3304) code, our commitment to both world-leading research and innovative, applied teaching which draws upon unrivalled industry partnerships, provides the platform for educating Australia’s next generation of urban thinkers and practitioners.
As a level A Associate Lecturer you will contribute to the teaching effort of the school and carry out activities to maintain and develop your scholarly research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession and discipline.
As a Level B Lecturer you will make significant contributions in both teaching and research, with the latter evidenced in an upward trajectory of Q1 scholarly journal publications and early career research grant success aligned to ERA1205/3304.
In terms of urban planning specialisations, we are looking for someone with expertise in social and community planning, research methods and research design. As well as academic experience, you may also have gained experience working as a practising planner, whether in urban policy, local government, or private practice. Where appropriate, you will be encouraged to pursue your research interests in conjunction with the City Futures Research Centre, and take advantage of interdisciplinary opportunities across the School, Faculty and University.
The role of Lecturer reports to the Discipline Director and has no direct reports.
**Responsibilities**:
Level A:
Specific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):
- Design and develop learning activities and resources and provide assessment and feedback using a range of appropriate approaches and learning environments with the support of more senior academics.
- Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
- Manage course administration, including academic quality assurance.
- Conduct specific research project/s under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to the development of research activities.
Level B (in addition to those above):
- Create scholarly impact which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge
- Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline) and design research projects.
- Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs (as per the norms of the discipline).
**Who You Are**:
You are an early-career academic with a strong research track record (relative to opportunity) and teaching experience to help deliver our accredited degree programs and contribute to research excellence.
Skills and experience required for this role include (but are not limited to):
Level A:
- Educational qualifications in urban planning or closely related field including completed PhD or equivalent.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated experience in and passion for the delivery of high-quality curriculum and/or program material for both discipline specific and faculty wide teaching and/or research activities.
- Evidence of and/or preparedness to undertake professional development of teaching practice.
