About the Role
Provide clinical care to patients and clinically manage, on a day-to-day basis, the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the provision of appropriate patient care.
The Principal House Officer provides medical services to all patients presenting to the hospital, both inpatient and outpatient services within the designated Neurology/Stroke Unit.
Fulfil the accountabilities and responsibilities of this role in accordance with Metro South's purpose and objectives, as outlined below.
Ensure patients and other staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
Commit to patient safety and quality in the delivery of health care by actively participating in safety and quality practices.
In addition, provide professional assistance within a specialist medical area and provide training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members.
On request, the Principal House Officer should provide a consultative service to other departments.
It is expected that the Principal House Officer will be involved in their own professional development and in the education of medical students.
Establish management plan for patients in consultation with the consultant.
Where appropriate, ensure discharge planning commences early in the process of care.
Communicate assessment findings, proposed management plans and alternatives to patient
and carers and seek consent.
