About our Program

Our new program Delegated Authority (Delegated authority - Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services (dcssds.qld.gov.au)) promotes self-determination and the safe care and connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with their families, kin, communities and culture.

Delegated Authority enables children and families to have authority and a voice in decision-making processes where ATSICHS holds decision-making power for statutory child protection decisions about individual children and families to be made by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children in order to support increased contact, connection and reunification.

About the Role

The Family Connection Specialist Or Practitioner (Delegated Authority) will support our CEO to enact powers and functions of the Qld Child Protection Act 1999 that have been delegated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people across the Brisbane/Moreton Child Safety region.

Our team are committed to ensuring child protection decision making for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families is made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, who honour the child and family voice, and know the family best. You will be working within a small, yet robust team of motivated colleagues who are qualified, driven and committed. Our team takes pride in delivering results for Mob with wholehearted dedication to teamwork and collaboration. Our aim is to actively eliminate the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and family's involvement in the Qld Child Protection system.

Duties

Engage with children, young people, families, elders, community and stakeholders to increase family safety, support and reunification options.

Practice Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Led Decision Making (ATSIFLDM) that honours the family’s right to self-determination, voice and safe connection to family, kin, community and culture.

Case management that is culturally grounded, child and family determined, safety-focused and in line with delegated functions and powers.

Care coordination that is related to a child's connection to family and culture, family visit/contact decisions, and reunification.

Work closely and in genuine partnership with family’s and Child Safety to make carefully considered and culturally safe recommendations to our CEO that inform decision-making.

Assessments around children and family needs, risk, and safety.

All administrative and compliance tasks related to the role.

Permanent Full Time

**Practitioner**: $83,517 per annum

**Specialist**: $90,677 per annum

11% Super + Not for Profit Salary Packaging (Increases your take home pay).

**Skills and Experiences**:
Required Qualification

**Practitioner**: Cert IV or Higher qualifications AND 2 years case management experience AND working knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999.

**Specialist**: Diploma or Higher qualifications AND 5 years case management experience AND Expert knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999.

Experience in navigating the Qld Child Protection system and getting successful outcomes for families

Culturally informed, trauma integrated, healing approach to practice which holds the safety of the child as paramount.

The ability to connect with people and able to quickly build rapport with vulnerable children and their families and Child Safety staff.

A valid Blue Card, Driver’s License, Police Check, and can flexibly work occasional hours outside 8:30am-5:00pm dependent on client needs.
