**About the role**

The Associate Strategist, Private Markets role is a full-time permanent opportunity within the QIC’s State Investments division based out of QIC’s Brisbane head office.

The Associate Strategist will assist in Private Market asset class strategy research, manager research, portfolio implementation and undertake portfolio analysis and reporting. The Associate Strategist will also work closely with the State Investments Portfolio Operations team and other QIC internal teams in ensuring the efficient implementation of the agreed portfolio strategies from an investment, legal, tax and operational perspective.

Working with senior team members, the Associate Strategist will also participate and assist in all areas of multi-asset class management of the wider portfolio including capital markets research and underwriting strategic and opportunistic investment strategies from idea generation to implementation.

Key accountabilities include:

- Undertake research on prospective investment strategies across private markets and conduct and assist on due diligence processes for manager appointments.
- Assist in co-ordinating with internal teams and external advisors on due diligence workstreams and execution.
- Monitoring and ongoing reporting on exposure and performance of investment managers and funds.
- Assist with portfolio management responsibilities including maintenance of portfolio data, preparation of client and consultant presentations and contribute to portfolio reporting.
- Work collaboratively with other QIC investment teams on investment research and innovation
- Keeping abreast of academic research and develop knowledge of best practice asset management techniques across private markets.
- Keep abreast of trends in ESG and socially responsible investing including implications for capital markets research and portfolio construction considerations, with a focus on private markets.
- Frequently observe international economic and financial market developments, specifically with respect to developments that will have an impact on the private markets investment strategies.
- Assist in ensuring research is communicated effectively, both internally and externally.

You will have a keen interest in multi asset portfolios and private markets and are hungry to make an impact and develop your career alongside a highly capable team. You will also bring:

- A degree in finance, accounting, business, commerce or equivalent.
- Prior experience (2 year minimum) in a funds / investment management firm.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to cast a critical eye over all work.
- Self motivated and a strong desire to develop and grow.
- Ability to work independently when allocated a task, seeing this through to completion.
- Keenness to understand QIC clients and their objectives.
- Engage in and lead research projects as needed across the State Investments team.
