**About Us**:
The Gap State High School has been proudly educating students within the north western suburbs since it first opened in 1960. The school has grown steadily over this time and the facilities have been steadily extended and upgraded on the current site. It is located within approximately a 15 minute drive from the Brisbane CBD and enjoys good access to public transport.
The school is nestled on an attractive sloping site in the picturesque foothills of Mt Coot-tha and the grounds provide a pleasant environment for students and teachers alike, with parcels of natural bushland rolling grassed areas and a large oval. Its central location facilitates strong partnerships with our local primary schools including Ashgrove State School, Bardon State School, Payne Road State School, The Gap State School, Hilder Road State School, Oakleigh State School, Rainworth State School, Ithaca Creek State School and Mt Nebo State School. The school is also close to the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Queensland.

**About the Role**:
In addition to the responsibilities for a teacher, the responsibilities for the Head of Department English at The Gap State High School include:

- creating regular opportunities for teachers to share, reflect and improve on classroom practice
- leading Faculty and Department meetings, ensuring a focus on improving student outcomes
- overseeing the development of a progressive and challenging curriculum
- ensuring assessment and feedback strategies are of the highest standards and have a direct impact on improving the quality of teaching and learning
- as a member of the team of Senior Leaders, playing a major role in ensuring the development of teaching and learning policies and practices across the school
- supporting teachers in the timely and effective reporting of information to parents
- developing English to be an example of excellence to others within and beyond the school
- ensuring all staff follow the expectations of the school and maintain the highest professional standards at all times

Members of staff contribute to the school's extra-curricular programme and are expected to play a full part in the life of the school.
