About the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
Founded in 2001, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. We champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.

About The Role
The Housing Coordinator works across the ASRC’S Housing and Aid Services in conjunction with the ASRC’s other services, sector partners, and key stakeholders to ensure that the Housing and aid services we provide are effective, accessible, client-focused and effectively address the complex needs of the ASRC’s client base.The Housing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering services to individuals in need of housing support. This role oversees housing approvals and service distribution while also contributing to sector advocacy, lobbying, and networking efforts to increase impact. The main objective is to ensure that housing services are consistently provided to clients in alignment with a Human Rights-Based Approach. This position is part-time, 3 days per week onsite.
About You
- Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in Social Work or a related professional discipline
- Experience in providing support to people seeking asylum, refugees, or clients with complex needs
- Demonstrated experience in the housing sector
- Adaptive and excellent complex interpersonal capabilities
- Experience in problem analysis and identifying practice trends
- Ability to undertake assessments and detect complex risk
- Experience in volunteer management and student supervision including recruitment, training, supervision and on-going support.
- High level skills and understanding of working with culturally diverse populations and commitment to cultural inclusive practice
- Experience and understanding in the impacts of trauma, housing, mental health, child protection and family violence
Lived experience of seeking asylum in Australia is highly desirable. Knowledge of policy and issues impacting on people seeking asylum in Australia as well as previous experience working within a not-for-profit environment, would also be advantageous.
