**Eligibility**
- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health and Aged Care

**Division Responsibilities**
new medicines and variations to existing medicines for supply in Australia. MRD makes
decisions to approve or reject market authorisation of medicines that are imported,
exported, manufactured, and supplied in Australia. MRD also has responsibility for ongoing
monitoring of medicines approved for supply in Australia to ensure they continue to
maintain an appropriate level of quality, safety and efficacy following entry into the
Australian marketplace.
**Branch Responsibilities**
The Pharmacovigilance Branch (PB) oversees the critical function of ensuring that medicines
maintain an appropriate level of quality, safety and efficacy following entry into the
Australian marketplace. PB also manage medicine shortages, oversee access to therapeutic
products for clinical trials, run inspection programs focused on Good Clinical Practice and
compliance with sponsors’ pharmacovigilance obligations and undertake other high profile
projects.
**Section Responsibilities**
The COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Assessment Section (CVCAS) is responsible for the assessment
of medical information for claims submitted to the COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme. The
COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme assists people who suffer moderate to significant harm
following an adverse reaction to a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine. It provides a simple,
streamlined process to compensate eligible people for their harm without the need for
complex legal proceedings.***
**Key Responsibilities**
The medical officer level 2 (MO2) is a key member of the vaccine claim assessment team.
The MO2 supports the MO3s and MO4 in the section providing day to day technical advice
and expertise.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Assessing claims against pre-agreed criteria.

**Key Capabilities**
- Comprehensive level medical knowledge, regulatory or medicolegal knowledge.

effectively with staff and members of the public who may not have a technical
background.

- Ability to evaluate ambiguous and incomplete information and make balanced
decisions using professional judgement and technical knowledge in the context of a
