Operational Risk Lead

The purpose of the role and your unique contribution is to be part of the team responsible to drive efficient and effective management of operational risk in the Intermediated Division. You will assign, oversee, and undertake risk identification management, mitigation and reporting alongside business owners aligned to the IAG Risk Management Strategy, Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite Statement. You will be a visible advocate for driving risk maturity uplift and improvement in operational risk culture within the Australian Division, and lead activity across the Operational Risk Consultants within the team. A critical success factor for the role is the ability to engage broadly and communicate effectively within IAG to influence a practical understanding of operational risk.

Key Responsibilities
- Supports the uplift of Risk maturity across the business unit to achieve IIAs risk maturity target through risk activity and effective culture change, getting buy-in and creating wholesale change
- Leads business unit risk profiling activity (including development and ongoing management) and facilitate the informed taking of risk within the IAG Risk Appetite Statement by risk owners, alongside the Manager, Risk
- Lead the facilitation of risk assessments for key business initiatives and projects (i.e., delivered risk), and risk classes and sub-categories, as required
- Works with business unit owners to provide mitigations and plans including coaching, workshops, and other activity, including oversight and leads/supports the development of plans (e.g., control self-assessment plan) to address risk lifecycle activities as necessary
- Co-ordinates and identifies whether the design and execution of controls are adequate and effective in mitigating risks, including establishing a robust control environment through control and process testing
- Identifies key assurance activities and works with the business to determine whether processes are being executed and managed effectively, supporting a continuous improvement approach
- Provide coaching and guidance to the team on controls assurance and risk events management oversight
- Leads, assigns, and oversees activity of the Team
- Provides coaching to increase technical skills and capability of others within the function

Skills & Experience
- Experience in General Insurance or Financial Services industry, and exposure to risk management or compliance role/s
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong understanding of the regulatory environment in which we operate and key parameters and decision factors in managing risk effectively
- Experience in developing and executing risk frameworks
- Experience in testing of controls and providing solutions for improvement
- Experience leading a team, including coaching, and developing others
- Relevant industry or specialism qualifications in Risk Management e.g., ANZIIF, AS/NZS ISO 3100:2009 or CPRA/M accreditation
- Experience in developing risk concepts and tools for varying levels of risk capability and maturity
