The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced Registrar Collection Access and Digitisation with a diverse set of contemporary collection management skills to join our Registration team in this full-time, ongoing APS Level 5 position.

The Registrar Collection Access and Digitisation plays a key role within the Registration team to preserve and share the Museum's National Maritime Collection (NMC). This role will manage and contribute to the policy, procedures and documentation for safe storage, movement and handling of the NMC and other historic material in the museum’s care.
This role will work with teams to manage aspects of installation and demount of historic material for exhibitions including incoming and outgoing loans. This role will support the delivery of a digitisation and data capture project to increase access to the museum's collections through the creation of digital content by scanning, research and cataloguing.
This role requires a diverse set of contemporary collection management skills and the ability to work collaboratively in teams to deliver a variety of services in a fast-changing environment.
**Key Accountabilities**
Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:
- Developing, reviewing and implementing policy and procedures for collection access and management including accessioning, digitisation, storage, handling, inventory, loan, exhibition object handling and documentation standards of the NMC and other historic material in the museum's care.
- Initiating and undertaking collection management programs including accessioning, storage, handling, inventory, digitisation of historic materials in the museum's care in accordance with museum policies and procedures and industry best practice.
- Monitoring the quality of collection management and loan data and records to ensure it is accurate and of a high standard to aid access, control, reliability, inventory, and audit and minimise risk of damage or loss. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, permits and protocols and adjust processes as necessary.
- Managing incoming and outgoing loans of maritime historic material including preparing loan contracts, risk assessments and freight, customs and import or export permits and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to analyse and mitigate risk and complying with legislation and industry best practice including PCOL guidelines.
- Participating in exhibition development including providing advice on object installation and demount, packing and movement and preparing necessary documentation.
- Digitising collection assets by scanning, editing and uploading to TMS and Fotoweb digital assets including TIF files and jpg derivatives and others as required for use in both internal and external collection discovery, management, preservation and online initiatives and participate in social media outreach teams and programs
- Managing relationships with external stakeholders by preparing correspondence and gathering and analysing collection data for reports, auditing or responding to public enquiries.
- Undertaking research and analysis of developments and innovations in museum collection management, digitisation and loans policy and procedures and implementing system improvement initiatives.
- Supervising staff and volunteers or interns and collaborating with the team to meet museum objectives and priorities with regards to collection management, digitisation, and data clean-up program.
**Selection Criteria**
- Comprehensive understanding of the role of a Registration team and detailed operational knowledge of the collection management and documentation requirements and processes involved in a major museum or similar institution.
- Demonstrated ability and practical knowledge of the physical and legal requirements for acquisition and accessioning, exhibition development and loan management, object movement, and storage.
