The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and highly organised Registrar Collections and Access to join our Registration team in this full-time, ongoing APS Level 5 position.

The Registrar Collections and Access plays a key role within the Registration team to preserve and share the Museum's National Maritime Collection (NMC). This role will manage and contribute to the policy, procedures and documentation for safe storage, movement and handling of the NMC and administration of the collection database as well as the digitisation of the collection for collection access and management. This role will organise the loan and shipment of historic objects in the museum's collection and care and manage aspects of installation and demount of collection objects and loans for exhibitions and programs including travelling exhibitions.

**Key Accountabilities**
Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:

- Developing and implementing policy and procedures for collection access and management including accessioning, digitisation, storage, handling, inventory, loan and documentation standards of the NMC and other historic material in the museum's care.
- Initiating and undertaking collection management programs including accessioning, storage, handling, inventory, digitisation of historic materials in the museum's care in accordance with museum policies and procedures and industry best practice.
- Monitoring the quality of collection management and loan data and records and ensuring it is accurate and of a high standard to aid access, control, inventory, and audit and minimise risk of damage or loss. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, permits and protocols and adjust processes as necessary.
- Managing incoming and outgoing loans of maritime historic material including preparing loan contracts, risk assessments and freight, customs and import or export permits and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to analyse and mitigate risk and complying with legislation and industry best practice including PCOL guidelines.
- Consulting with TMS users and identifying report needs, building or editing customised end-user reports using Crystal Reports and SQL Server Reporting Services.
- Preparing correspondence and gathering and analysing collection data for reports, auditing or responding to public enquiries.
- Undertaking research and analysis of developments and innovations in museum collection management, digitisation and loans policy and procedures and implementing system improvement initiatives.
- Supervising staff and volunteers and collaborating with the team to meet museum objectives and priorities with regards to collection access, digitisation, and data clean-up program.

**Selection Criteria**
- Comprehensive understanding of the role of a Registration team and detailed operational knowledge of the collection management and documentation requirements and processes involved in a major museum or similar institution.
- Demonstrated ability and practical knowledge of the physical and legal requirements for the acquisition, loan, movement, and storage of museum objects and experience in object documentation and loan management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a team in a collaborative environment, fast changing environment and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Well-developed organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

**Qualifications and/or relevant experience required**
**Mandatory**
- Bachelor degree or equivalent qualifications in Museum Studies or a related experience and /or training field.
- Current NSW driver’s licence

**Desirable**
- Knowledge and skills in administering TMS Collections CMIS.
- Crystal report writing skills.
- SSRS report writing skills.
- T-SQL for querying and administering a database.
- Forklift licence.
