**Position overview**
This ongoing position in art history and curatorial studies (open field) is situated within the Centre for Art History and Art Theory (CAHAT) in the ANU School of Art and Design.
The School of Art and Design is committed to developing and presenting original and creative research and teaching across diverse histories, theories, and practices of art, design, and material culture. It supports art-historical and practice-led scholarship at all levels from undergraduate to PhD. Established within the School in 2014, CAHAT offers one of the leading programs for art history and curatorial studies in Australia.
CAHAT’s current research and teaching strengths include global art history, race and gender studies, material culture studies, curatorial studies, digital methods for art history and curatorship, and Australian First Nations studies. CAHAT staff collaborate regularly with colleagues in the GLAM sector, especially the national cultural institutions located in Canberra.
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in art history or a related field, contribute to our research and education profile, and have an active research and publication agenda. They will participate in all aspects of the School and Centre’s work and have the demonstrated capacity to contribute to its undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, plus honours and graduate-level supervision and mentorship.
As appropriate to the level of appointment, the appointee will demonstrate research leadership in the field of art history and curatorial studies, nationally and internationally, evidenced through publication in top-ranked academic venues. They will also have a demonstrated capacity for attracting competitive research funding.
The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 57 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and three ARC Laureates. A hub of vibrant activity, we host more than 270 lectures, concerts and exhibitions each year, most of which are open to the public.
