The Aboriginal Youth Justice Officer is responsible for the development, delivery, monitoring and review of a culturally sensitive service to Aboriginal youth, families/parents and the Aboriginal Community. The role provides a range of services and information to Aboriginal young people and families/parents appearing before the Youth Court, by undertaking a variety of roles which contribute to the efficient, effective and more culturally responsive operation of the Youth Court.

The Aboriginal Youth Justice Officer supports Aboriginal youth, their families and the court system to make informed decisions regarding the care, correction and guidance of Aboriginal youth. The Aboriginal Youth Justice Officer supports young people, parents and families in the criminal jurisdiction, the Youth Aboriginal Community Court and the care and protection jurisdiction. The Aboriginal Youth Justice Officer provides information to the court to support the court in making informed decisions with respect to the care and protection concerns identified and that keep a child safe from harm.

**Special Conditions**:

- Appointment is under the _Courts Administration Act 1993_. Terms and Conditions of employment are governed by the _Public Sector Act 2009_.
- Appointment is dependent upon a current National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory.
- This role is identified as a Prescribed Position and the successful applicant is required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to employment with the CAA, which must be renewed every five years before expiry. WWCC’s can be obtained through the Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening Unit
- As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
- May be required to work in any CBD or metropolitan location either on a temporary or ongoing basis and undertake intra or interstate travel which may necessitate overnight absences.
- Some out of hours work will be required and may extend beyond normal office hours.

**Remuneration**:
ASO4 ($76,561 - $80,256 per annum)
