Due to growth within QinetiQ, we are seeking an experienced and driven Leading Hand - Mechanical to join our Engineering Services division that will see you located in Port Melbourne.

As a Leading Hand - Mechanical, you will be involved in a wide range of activities and providing support to a small group of technicians.

Some of your responsibilities will include, but not limited to;
Supervise and provide technical direction and support to technicians

Plan and allocate daily duties to workshop technicians

Ensure WHS systems such as JSA, SOP, PPE, RA are in place prior to work commencing

Perform Quality sign off under the direction of the Quality Engineer

Assembly of fabricated/ manufactured parts into products, assembles and sub-assemblies to produce machines and equipment

Perform machining (manual and CNC machines), fabrication and welding as required for standard production

Performing mechanical diagnostics and fault finding

Ensure familiarity with and comply with all engineering procedures, operating instructions and Quality Assurance requirements

Provide input into operating and maintenance documentation

To be successful in the position of Leading Hand - Mechanical, you will need to bring with you;
Trades qualification as Fitter & Turner/ Toolmaker or Cert-IV in Engineering or equivalent

Previous experience as leading hand

Proven experience in safe operation and maintenance of industrial machinery

Very good attention to detail, fast learner, and with a positive can-do attitude

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Can provide advice and guidance to professional engineers and designers, positively influencing designs and projects

Experience interpreting and working with CAD models and design tools (Preferred but not essential)
