The NSW Ministry of Health in response to recommendations from the Special Commission into the Drug Ice is funding an array of innovative services and models of care intended to effect improved health outcomes, reduce projected morbidity rates in this cohort and contribute to developing best practice guidelines for health systems caring for this group of patients.

NBMLHD Drug and Alcohol Services has been successful in securing funding for the creation and delivery of clinics to address the impacts of methamphetamine across the lifespan, and specifically describe, treat, and manage potential organ damage known to arise from methamphetamine use.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide medical support to the Drug & Alcohol Lifespan Clinics including but not limited to assessment and management of patients with substance misuse. The position will be located within the Drug & Alcohol Services at Nepean Hospital.

**What you'll be doing**
- Assessment of patients with substance use in widely diverse settings.
- Review of patients attending the Lifespan Clinics, in consultation with Specialist.
- The position holder will be expected to adopt a progressively independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of, and at the discretion of the Senior Medical Officer (SMO).
- Management of patients with substance use in various forms of service delivery as part of a multidisciplinary team, the doctor must possess advanced assessment, examination and communication skills.

**Essential requirements**
- MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a tertiary setting.
- Completion of a minimum of 4 years clinical practice in an area or areas of medicine linked to Addiction Medicine.
- Experience in addiction medicine or general medicine within a hospital setting.
- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
- The position holder is expected to be registered as an opioid substitution therapy prescriber.
- To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

**Selection criteria**
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment, and expertise.
- Demonstrated experience in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry or General Medicine in a setting relevant to the key accountabilities of this role.
- Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
