The primary purpose of the role is part of a multidisciplinary team in the management of patients with substance use in various forms of service delivery, including inpatient and outpatient treatment modalities across the whole LHD. The service includes delivery of Opiate Substitution Therapy, specialised Substance Use in Pregnancy clinics, and a very busy consultation/liaison service supporting the hospitals in the LHD. Involvement in research is actively encouraged and supported and there is potential to enrol in a higher degree.
**What you'll be doing**
- The Trainee will be part of a multidisciplinary team in the management of patients with substance use in various forms of service delivery, including inpatient and outpatient treatment modalities across the whole LHD.
- The service includes delivery of Opiate Substitution Therapy, specialised Substance Use in Pregnancy clinics, and a very busy consultation/liaison service supporting the hospitals in the LHD.
- Involvement in research is actively encouraged and supported and there is potential to enrol in a higher degree.
- The Trainee is expected to be involved with teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Officers attached to the service both formal and ad hoc including supervision with patient admissions, investigations and management at Nepean Hospital.
**Where you'll be working**
The principal goals of the Drug and Alcohol Service are:
- Provision of assessment, referral and treatment services for both hospital patients and others in the community whose use of alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs constitutes a health risk.
- Improvement of the skill of hospital and community health staff members for the identification, optimal intervention and management of these clients.
- Development of a medical/nursing resource team to provide a consultancy service to other health care providers and hospital within the area for patient treatment.
- Promotion and evaluation of services and research relevant to the activities of the Drug and Alcohol Service.
**Essential requirements**
- MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
- Completion of a minimum of 3 years clinical practice in an area or areas of medicine relevant to Addiction Medicine.
- Registration (or eligibility to register) as an opioid substitution therapy prescriber.
- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
- To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
**Selection criteria**
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Demonstrated experience in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry or General Medicine in a setting relevant to the key accountabilities of this role.
- Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
