Broadsheet National Assistant Editor
Broadsheet Media is looking for a national assistant editor to join our editorial team. You will report to Broadsheet’s national editor and work closely with a team of editors to ensure Broadsheet delivers on its promise to be the best resource on city culture in Australia, with oversight of Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, as well as contributing to national news and features. The role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
This is a key role within Broadsheet and an opportunity to have a significant impact at one of Australia’s most recognised, reputable and innovative digital publishers.
The role
This is a hands-on production role involving the ideation, planning, commissioning, editing, writing and publication of content and copy. It’s for someone with a creative mind and passion for interesting and surprising stories. The editor knows how to connect with audiences online, what makes successful and credible digital editorial and has an endless curiosity about life and culture in Australia.
The national assistant editor will ensure smooth day-to-day running of editorial on our Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth verticals, including production of weekly newsletters, and have a nimble approach that allows them to move from an opening news story on a fine diner in Brisbane to a national feature about winter fashion or a new cookbook.
We’re also after someone with a passion for, and nuanced understanding of, the cultural scene - especially food and drink - in Australia, from hospitality to the arts to fashion to travel.
Knowledge of Broadsheet and the culture and cities it covers will be an advantage, as will a familiarity with the ways in which a publication can be repackaged socially with speed, clarity, and wit. We’re looking for a team player, and someone who is agile, efficient and has a “yes” mentality. A knowledge of Perth or Brisbane or Adelaide is a plus, but not necessary.
Broadsheet editorial is a fast-paced, constantly changing news environment and the national assistant editor must be a highly organised, flexible and reliable individual who is self-motivated, consistently meets tight deadlines and can manage high-pressure situations in a calm and professional manner.
