**Position Overview**:
Reporting to the Directors, as the General Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our timber business. You will provide strategic leadership, manage day-to-day operations, and drive growth and profitability. Your strong business acumen, industry knowledge, and ability to inspire and motivate a team will be critical to your success in this role.
**Key duties**:
**People**
- Coach, mentor and develop staff competencies and capabilities.
- Manage the development of direct reports, high performers, and high potential staff.
- Ensure staff work in a safe and healthy environment.
- Partner with HR to oversee and develop positive employee engagement via implementing a range of people-based processes and initiatives.
**Sales and Customer Relations**
- Develop regional sales and gross profit budget.
- Set and implement a sales strategy across the region.
- Monitor the sales territory and expand the customer base.
- Offer transparency to ensure the sales team have a clear understanding of set sales and GP budgets.
- Responsibility for customer service levels.
- Ensure all staff undergo relevant training.
**Inventory and Assets**
- Ensure stock turn and stock holding budgets are achieved.
- Reduce excess/aged stock.
- Ensure branch stock mix is correct.
- Ensure stock is stored and controlled in a safe environment.
- Ensure all stock strategies are maintained.
- Ensure national purchasing procedures are maintained.
- Manage the stock take process.
**Finance and Compliance**
- Develop regional budget.
- Control the overheads and expenses of the entire operations environment and ensure they remain within budgeted levels.
- Conduct internal branch compliance audits.
- Ensure continuous improvement to service levels and look for better ways to do things in line with quality assurance principles.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- Strong business acumen, with a demonstrated ability to drive financial results and manage budgets.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
**Beneficial but not essential**
- Proven experience as a General Manager or in a similar senior leadership role within the timber industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the timber industry, including market trends, products, and processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
