Job Category: Healthcare & Medical
**Who are we?**
The Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centre is a place of hope grounded in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customs, values, spiritual connection to ancestral lands, seas, and waters, and cultural knowledge. It offers a culturally safe and welcoming environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can access support for their mental health and social and emotional wellbeing. The Centre takes a holistic, whole person approach that respects and includes traditional healing methods. Staff are culturally aware, trauma-informed, recovery-focused, and provide warm, non-judgemental, and compassionate care.
**Centre Implementation**
Our centre is set to officially open its doors late 2025.
We are now recruiting passionate, enthusiastic volunteers to join our Aboriginal Advisory Group who are also excited by the unique opportunity to help shape something from the ground up.
The Advisory Committee will be a key voice in shaping the direction, cultural integrity and community responsiveness of the Australia’s first stand-alone, all ages Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centre. The Committee works in partnership with the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Consortium Governance Board and Service Governance Committee, providing cultural advice, community connection and lived insight to ensure the service reflects what Aboriginal people know they need - not what systems assume.
**What We’re Looking For**
We are seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who bring any of the following:
- Strong community connection and cultural knowledge, including cross-border and kinship perspectives
- Lived experience of social and emotional wellbeing and/or navigating mental health systems
- Insight into issues impacting the wellbeing of Aboriginal people across metropolitan, rural and remote settings
- A passion for advocacy, healing, and empowering community voices
- Willingness to collaborate, listen deeply, and walk together with others on a shared path of change
We particularly encourage expressions of interest from young people, Elders, and those with experience in disability, justice, healing, housing, alcohol and other drug support, or family wellbeing spaces.
**What You’ll Be Involved In**
- Guiding the Centre’s cultural direction and supporting its alignment with the Model of Care.
- Advising on key issues affecting Aboriginal people and strengthening community voice in service design
- Supporting the cultural capability of staff across attitudes, behaviours, skills and knowledge
- Promoting connection across Aboriginal communities, Country, and services, including cross-regional networks
- Participating in quarterly meetings (in person or online) with opportunities for deeper engagement where needed
**Support and Recognition**
Members will be provided with sitting fees to cover out of pocket expenses and support to fully participate in a culturally safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
**Location**
**Requirements**:
- You may be required to obtain a National Police Clearance, Working With Children’s Check and/or Working with Vulnerable People Check
- This position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified position and is exempt under the Equal Opportunity Act (1984). The position will only be open to those who identify as of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
**How to Apply**
- Do you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander?
- Please tell us about yourself, and your connection to community or Country
- Why are you interested in a position within our Advisory Group?
- Please tell us about any skills, experiences, or perspectives you would bring to the group. Please also tell us about any experience you have as a member of an Advisory Group or a similar setting.
