We are seeking an
**Underwriting Manager SME **to join our Commercial Division, which is Allianz Australia’s largest distribution channel. Customers include local, national and international brokers, and buying groups throughout Australia and New Zealand.

This role is an important role within the SME Leadership Team. SME business is a strategically important product at Allianz and we are looking to invest in our team and systems to maximise the growth opportunity. In this role, you will be asked to provide professional underwriting standards to internal and external customers, develop and implement required operational action plans to deliver quality service standards, whilst always ensuring adherence to company risk, underwriting and compliance standards.

**You'll be responsible for**:

- Act as Subject Matter Expert coaching a high-performing team of SME Underwriters and acting as escalation point for difficult referrals.
- Contribute to the development of market leading SME products, which adhere to company risk, underwriting and compliance standards.
- Deliver Financial goals as set out in Plan that meets both GWP and Profit objectives.
- Manage workflow and underwriting escalation processes across the SME Underwriting team to ensure market leading customer service is delivered to maintain positive Net Promoter Score (NPS) results.
- Contribute to the design of new systems, processes and procedures with a view of delivering superior SME underwriting functions.
- Work with key partners in the market to maximise scheme and affinity opportunities
- Develop and implement targeted business optimisation initiatives to ensure Underwriting meets customer and people targets.
- Facilitate an inclusive and collaborative environment with all Commercial initiatives and programs to further build on Allianz People Attributes and to ensure diverse thinking/best outcomes.
- Partner with SME Underwriting Operation Managers to ensure all SME Underwriters have the appropriate underwriting authority and job scope, to reflect their capabilities and role.
- Engage the Underwriting Enablement team to continually develop materials to support the product and underwriting knowledge of the SME Underwriters.
- Facilitate an inclusive and collaborative environment with all Commercial initiatives and programs to further build on Allianz People Attributes and to ensure diverse thinking/best outcomes.
- Actively promote and drive SME risk management activities with customers, to effectively deliver on loss ratio targets and portfolio results.
- Identify local risk and compliance issues to develop and implement resolution plans.

**Important to your success**:

- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and industry accreditations, where necessary.
- Extensive experience in an operational Underwriting role (preferably in Packages and/or Commercial Motor) in a general insurance organisation.
- Comprehensive understanding of relevant regulatory and/or legislative compliance requirements that impact the organisation.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and ability to optimise business value to customers by delivering high quality services and positive customer experiences to sustain and enhance the customer base.
- Proven analytical and critical thinking capability to interpret a range of data, identify patterns, trends and links that inform judgements and solutions.
- Pays high attention to detail by completing tasks with thoroughness and accuracy and has the ability to quickly identify errors or inconsistencies within information.
- Ability to interpret and analyse complex information, extract meaningful insights and evaluate options for decision making.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact and influence.
