The Central Coast Local Heath District are currently seeking passionate individuals who committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. headspace Gosford and Lake Haven are looking for dynamic Youth Access Team (YAT) Workers to join their team in either a temporary or permanent role. As a YAT Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting young people aged 12-25, particularly those who may be at risk, experiencing mental health challenges, or struggling with drug and alcohol issues. - Permanent full-time
- Permanent part-time - 24 hours per week
- Temporary part-time - 24 hours per week until 6 July 2025

This role is suitable for the following:

In this role, you will conduct initial screening assessments, provide brief interventions, and facilitate referrals to appropriate support services for young people. You will work closely with mental health professionals, including those from CYPMH and Adult Mental Health Services, to determine the best course of action for young people seeking help at headspace. You will serve as the first point of contact for young people and their families, providing essential engagement and liaising with GPs and Allied Health Professionals. This role also involves the collection and entry of client data, ensuring a seamless service delivery experience. Occasionally, outreach work may be required to meet the needs of the young people you serve.

**About You**
- Minimum Tertiary Bachelor Degree in Community Welfare, Counselling, Social Work (where degree provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work), Occupational Therapy (plus general registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia) (Health Professional L1-L2), or other qualifications deemed relevant by the employer; or Tertiary Degree Psychology (4 year degree with 4th year Honours in Psychology) plus either provisional or full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA/Psychology Board of Australia (Psychologist Yr 1-Yr 9);or Tertiary Degree in Nursing plus Division 1 Registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA (RN Y1-8)
In addition Welfare Officers, Counsellors, Social Workers, Sexual Assault Workers and Occupational Therapists are required to have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience in Community Welfare/Counselling/Social Work/Occupational Therapy in order to be classified as a Level 2.
- You have extensive experience working with young people,and a demonstrated understanding of their mental health needs.
- Knowledge of the challenges faced by young people aged 12-25, particularly those at risk or experiencing mental health problems, substance use disorders, or both.
- You have strong communication skills, including active listening and the use of motivational interviewing techniques.
- You have the ability to engage young people and their families, providing holistic support that addresses mental health and wellbeing concerns. Your ability to develop rapport and work effectively with young people will be crucial to your success in this role.

You will be based at headspace Gosford and Lake Haven, two dynamic and vibrant community centers committed to supporting young people in our region. These centers offer a welcoming and inclusive environment, providing mental health services, counselling, and general health support. While primarily based at these locations, you may be required to travel to other sites within the district or participate in outreach work, ensuring our services are accessible to all young people in need.
