**Division Responsibilities**
The Health Economics and Research Division is responsible for strengthening the
Department’s evidence-based approach. It is the central hub for the Department’s data
analytics, modelling, health and medical research, health economics, performance
measurement and evaluation capabilities.
**Branch Responsibilities**
The Data and Analytics Branch drives the Department’s evidence-base to support policy,
programs and services that improve the health and ageing of Australians. We do this
through supporting safe and effective use and sharing of data and leading a culture that
promotes and finds opportunities for engagement between data and analytics experts and
the department’s policy leaders to identify their high priority, strategic research needs. The
Branch delivers:
- advice on data governance and management
- tailored insights using advanced or specialised data analytics to a range of audiences
- pathways to increase data analytics skills and capabilities across the Department
- facilitation of data sharing and data integration to improve evidence base and to
- unlock new insights in delivering the above- the Branch regularly engages with stakeholders internal and external to the
department and government to inform analysis.
**Section Responsibilities**
There are multiple roles available within the Data and Analytics Branch. Sections looking for
**Strategic Data Policy and Governance Section** provides leadership and oversight of the
Department of Health and Aged Care’s data policy and governance to maximise the safe use
and reuse of data. The section has three broad areas of responsibility - Strategic Data Policy
and Engagement, Data Governance and Data Management.
**Data Availability and Sharing Section** provides operational support to externally managed
data access arrangements from brokers (e.g. Services Australia, AIHW, ABS). This section
also coordinate cross division data access and acquisition activities including internal
projects to support greater access to data and standard data products, including linked data.
It also assists in embedding safe data practices.
**Integrated Data Insights Section** supports Departmental analytic needs through using and
improving integrated data resources, including strategic enhancement of two-way data
sharing with jurisdictions and analysing health outcomes for vulnerable population groups.
The section is a key interface across a range of Commonwealth, jurisdictional, research and
advisory bodies seeking to answer complex, cross-portfolio questions that inform ongoing
health system priorities.
**Strategic Data Brokerage and Reform Section **drives improvements in the health and aged
care sectors through internal and external strategic data brokerage and reform activities.
The section also supports strategic data policy advice regarding implementation of health
data reforms under the National Health Reform Agreement 2020-25, providing secretariat
services for the Health Data Collaboration, including reporting to Health Chief Executives
Forum, and facilitates Departmental representation on cross-agency and cross-jurisdictional
data reform committees.
**External Data Partnerships and Capability Section** is responsible for fostering external
stakeholder relationships and academic engagements that help better inform data-driven
health policy development, program management and evaluation activities. The section is
