**About the Opportunity**
This is a pivotal role focused on the acquisition, interpretation, and promotion of the Library’s collections, with a particular emphasis on manuscript materials. As Coordinator, Collection Acquisition and Curation, you will lead a dedicated team within the Collection Acquisition & Curation Branch, shaping the Library’s collections to meet the needs of readers and researchers. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of one of Australia’s most significant cultural institutions by enhancing access to heritage collections and contributing to strategic initiatives that support public engagement and scholarly research.
The Collection Acquisition & Curation Branch sits within the Library Services Division, which is committed to delivering high-quality reader services, preserving collections for future generations, and fostering innovation and collaboration across the Library and with external partners.
You are a passionate and experienced library or museum professional with a strong background in collection development and management principles in a library or similar cultural context acquisition. You bring:
- Deep knowledge of Australian history, particularly in the context of historical and contemporary manuscripts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to navigate complex acquisition scenarios, and donor or vendor relationships and expectations.
- Proven leadership experience, with a collaborative and supportive management style.
- Strong research and writing skills, capable of producing high-quality interpretive content.
- A strategic mindset and commitment to continuous improvement in collection practices, and to working with colleagues to achieve the Library’s strategic vision.
- Experience working with digital collection strategies and collection management systems.

**How to apply**
Question 1
- The Library is an approved borrowing institution under the Australian Government’s Protection of Cultural Objects on Loan Scheme (PCOL). As a signatory of this scheme the Library also undertakes due diligence for items to be acquired into the collection. What are key actions required to demonstrate due diligence in the acquisition of manuscript collections?
Question 2
- The scale and complexity of born-digital archives are posing enormous challenges to libraries responsible for collecting and preserving documentary heritage. Who are the leaders and expert groups you would consult in the preparation of a contemporary collecting strategy for manuscript collections?
