Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Policy/Research Officer on a contract for 6 months with potential extension.
**Position Overview**
About the team The Indigenous Strategic Policy Team is responsible for leading policy development and service delivery on Closing the Gap and other cross-portfolio Indigenous strategic policies. This includes:
- Leading on Indigenous specific early childhood education and care sector research, analysis and evaluation projects to build the evidence-base of what works
- Driving evidence-based policy advice to develop and deliver Indigenous specific early childhood education and care initiatives and projects, including the Early Years Education Program and Early Learning Teaching Trial
- Working in partnership with SNAICC, the peak advocacy group for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, to support early childhood care and development.
- Supporting the department's role in establishing and participating in the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy Partnership as the Government co-chair along with our partner, SNAICC.
Specific duties and capabilities required:
- Experience in research, policy analysis, writing reports, project management and stakeholder communication within the APS
- Strong communication skills and the ability to represent the Department at different forums
- High level of cultural competency and understanding of the issues affecting Indigenous Australians
- Flexibility, agility, initiative, and the ability to drive work outcomes
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills and sensible judgement
- Ability to work collaboratively across the branch, division and group
The following attributes are preferred but not essential:
- Understanding of Australia's early childhood education and care sector
