**The Role**
Reporting to Principal Engineer - The Destroyer System Program Office (DDGSPO) EL 2 Engineering Manager works with considerable independence and is accountable to perform and achieve very complex engineering and project work within an integrated workforce. They will require extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

The EL 2 Engineering Manager will also assume the duties of Principal Engineer at their absence and lead the DDGSPO Engineering team exercising their people management skills and knowledge to lead a high performing and cohesive team.

DDGSPO EL 2 Engineering Manager will have extensive knowledge relating to the methodology, systems and procedures within the engineering management function and have the ability to translate this into strategy.

They will provide a strategic level of specialist and professional expertise, potentially relating to the work of different function areas. They will initiate, establish and maintain strong relationships with a network of stakeholders internally and externally and will have the ability to recognise shared agendas and work toward mutually beneficial outcomes.

**About our Team**
The Destroyer System Program Office (DDGSPO) has been established to sustain the Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD). The DDGSPO is an integrated workforce consisting of ADF, APS and industry personnel based at Garden Island in Sydney.

Given the integrated nature of the workforce, positive relationships, collaborative behaviours, and an agile and flexible approach will be fundamental to the success of the DDGSPO. The DDGSPO is a dynamic and challenging work environment supporting the Royal Australian Navy's most capable Hobart Class warships.

We are looking for someone who will be a team player with highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills. They will genuinely foster a curiosity for innovative possibilities and an enthusiasm to learn and drive change in order to gain efficiencies. They need to display an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing complex situations and uncertainty. They need to take ownership of outcomes and lead tasks to success.

The EL 2 Engineering Manager will exercise a significant degree of independence and perform an important leadership role. They will be responsible for influencing and developing strategies, policies, priorities and operational practices in support of Defence objectives based on high level decision making and judgement. They will provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders as well as leading and assuming accountability for very complex work or work programs that have strategic, political or operational significance.

Please note: A Baseline clearance is required to be obtained initially, with the expectation that this will be upgraded to NV 1 once engagement has commenced.
