**The Role**
An APS 6 Contract Management Officer is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex contract management work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to have and maintain a well-developed understanding of and compliance with relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
The APS 6 Contract Management Officer will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the contract management function based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist research and analysis conduct reviews and perform procedural and clerical support work to achieve results.
The APS 6 Contract Management Officer will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. They are expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit.
An APS 6 Contract Management Officer may be a team coach or lead a team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.
They will provide detailed contract management technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.
They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development. They will need to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance. This is a desk-based position in a collaborative team environment.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. **About our Team**
The Destroyer, Guided System Program Office (DDG SPO) is part of the Major Surface Ships Branch (MSS) within Maritime Sustainment Division (MSD) and the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG). DDG SPO leads the Destroyer Enterprise in sustaining the Hobart Class DDGs: HMAS Hobart (III), HMAS Brisbane (III) and HMAS Sydney (V).
You will be a valued member of the Commercial Team within DDG SPO, which is strongly committed to value adding to the business, and driving strategic efficiencies and innovation.
Reporting to the EL 1 Commercial Manager, the APS 6 position will be responsible for carrying out a range of contract management duties to support the Hobart Class DDGs. Daily tasks will be varied as the team supports a broad range of functions such as Performance Management, Financial Management, Risk Management, Deliverables Management, and Technical Data Management.
As such you will be organised, demonstrate attention to detail, communicate effectively and be able to manage workflow whilst working in a dynamic and busy environment. You will be a team player with excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders, including contractors, Australian Public Service (APS) and Australian Defence Force (ADF) members.
You will also have highly developed written communication skills. You will be someone who genuinely fosters a curiosity for innovative possibilities and an enthusiasm to learn and drive change in order to gain efficiencies.
Highly Desirable (one or more of the below):
- Law Degree or equivalent; or
- Contract/Commercial Management experience; or
- Certificate IV Procurement;
- Supervisory/team management ability is highly desirable.
