What is the role?
Digital Surveillance Collection within the AFP’s Covert and Technical Operations (CTO) branch. Applicants will require a demonstrated aptitude to successfully develop and lead technical teams to deliver digital surveillance capabilities in direct support of law enforcement and intelligence outcomes. Digital Surveillance Collection’s (DSC) mix of 50+ highly skilled software developers, hardware engineers, data scientists, network and communication specialists and covert operatives provide a unique law enforcement capability in terms of addressing the increasing challenges and opportunities that emerging technology presents to covertly maintaining lawful access, collection and monitoring of the communications and activities of the highest levels of criminality.
Reporting to Commander Covert and Technical Operations, the successful applicant will be required to not only deliver against the Executive Level management and leadership expectations and work level standards, but will also drive the planning, development and delivery of business lead Information Technology, including telecommunications interception, digital surveillance and online collection technologies. Applicants require a complement of strong leadership and technical innovation experience, with law enforcement or national security experience being advantageous, but not essential.
Executive Level employees must also ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

What will you do?
As the Coordinator of Digital Surveillance Collection you will be required to:
Effectively lead teams of technical specialists to develop and implement lawful covert digital surveillance capabilities (including interception, computer intrusion and online collection) within a dynamic and rapidly evolving technical and law enforcement environment.
Effectively champion and manage budget, technical and project development resources as well as the effective development of your staff, including within a geographically dispersed and flexible working environment.
Build and maintain excellent professional relationships through the provision of insightful, persuasive and trusted advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders relating to the technical and lawful uses of digital surveillance capabilities.
Effectively plan and safely conduct covert digital surveillance operations, with consideration to AFP operational priorities, legislative compliance, evidential requirements, and organisational risk.
Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen
An NV2 security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Proven leadership success including an ability to build and support high performing technical teams.
Ability to build a culture that embraces diversity, inclusion and respect.
Proven ability to deliver results within a high pressure environment including working to dynamic, competing and critical timeframes.
Experience in building and maintaining innovative technical capabilities within a business lead IT environment that values sound data management practices.
