Osborne Primary School is a large school of around 620 students located in Mount Martha, approximately 50 kilometres southeast of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. Although initially established in 1873 to serve the needs of a largely rural population, the school is now close to a rapidly growing urban area to the east of Mornington. The school makes excellent use of its location near to Port Philip Bay and to sensitive wetland and bushland areas nearby.

Teaching to suit individual students' learning needs is delivered through programs such as "Point of Need" and “STAR” problem solving teaching in Mathematics, "CAFE" reading comprehension programs and 6 + 1 writing traits in Literacy. A combination of both explicit teaching methods and inquiry learning are used throughout the school.

Four major concepts -: “Understanding, Diversity, Creating, and Sustainability” are investigated through the inquiry process across the school. An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the _Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic)_ or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
