**The opportunity we have available**
The Road & Vehicle Safety Division aims to improve road safety and reduce road trauma for all Australians. The division has four main functions: setting the policy direction for road safety through the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-30 and National Road Safety Action Plan 2023-25; delivering targeted road safety programs; developing and maintaining the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA) and other legislative instruments and vehicle standards; and regulating the first provision of vehicles in the Australian market including vehicle certification, imports, enforcement and vehicle recalls.
The Vehicle Safety Operations Branch administers the RVSA and the Road Vehicle Standards Rules 2019 (together the RVS legislation), which sets vehicle standards for all new vehicles entering the Australian market and regulates the supply of used vehicles to the market, establishes a Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) and establishes a framework for recalling unsafe road vehicles and approved road vehicle components.
**What will you do?**
Key duties include:
- Application assessment under the RVS legislation by leveraging technical expertise and knowledge of legislative framework requirements
- Development of vehicle safety policy, procedures and standards
- Providing technical input and advice to other sections within the branch
- Contributing to risk-based assurance or review activities, such as audits
- Analysis and assessment of information from assurance or review activities and drafting recommendations for decision makers
- Liaison with industry and government agencies, including state and territory regulators, other Australian Government agencies and ANCAP
- Developing written reports, publications, briefings, correspondence.

- identify your experience in the automotive, or similar engineering-based industries
- use evidence to develop policies and strategies
- work with regulation or administrative law
- excellent written and oral communication skills
- engage with stakeholders
- identify highly-developed interpersonal skills, and your ability to work both in and across teams fostering a culture of teamwork, integrity and respect
- manage time and use planning skills to enable you to work on multiple tasks and resilience to work under time-pressure to meet deadlines.

- Ability to establish and maintain key strategic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
