**Who we are**
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry maintain and create agricultural export opportunities, to provide gains for Australian agriculture, fishing and forestry. We manage biosecurity risks to Australia to protect our multi-billion-dollar industries and our way of life. We engage with international counterparts to reinforce Australia’s role in shaping how the global agriculture and fibre sector addresses food security, productivity, trade, sustainability and the impacts of climate change.

**The Job**
We are looking for enthusiastic students to join our University Vacation Employment Program (UVEP). The UVEP is a great way to gain paid work experience prior to graduating and offers you the opportunity to work on interesting projects with professionals and researchers in your field of interest. It also provides you with insight into future career opportunities with the department including the Graduate Development Program.

**The UVEP includes**:

- a six-week paid work placement
- the opportunity to complete a specific project/work for the department relevant to your studies and interests
- the opportunity to learn first-hand from experienced professionals in your field of interest and develop your job-ready skills.

The various projects we have on offer for the 2025 UVEP are diverse, spanning a range of issues and business functions including but not limited to:

- reviewing and updating the National Plan of Action for the Conservation and Management of Seabirds
- developing a recruitment policy to attract top young scientists to work in plant biosecurity
- conducting research at the Post Entry Quarantine facility to monitor insect disease impacts on plant health
- supporting the design and implementation of corporate finance training
- data processing and analysis to identify indicators of potential biosecurity risks
- supporting the organisation of the 2025 Quarantine Regulators Meeting.
