The Consultant (Geochemistry) will provide specialist environmental geochemical consulting services to the mining industry. Areas of involvement could include scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, mine closure, environmental aspects of mine operations and research and development projects. Consultant level staff may work on projects within the national geochemistry team as well as on international projects with other SRK Consulting practices. The Consultant (Geochemistry) needs to be capable of working independently and as part of project teams. This job role is primarily office based, however there will be a requirement for field-based components and the staff member needs to be able to travel for occasional site work.
- Deliver technical work on geochemistry and mine waste projects which may include periods of time conducting site-based work.
- Delivery of high-quality geochemical work in mining related mine waste projects in a timely and cost-effective manner and as determined by peer review and client feedback.
- Provide support for geochemical projects, including permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation.
- Design and conduct geochemical characterization studies (soil, mine wastes, and ore) in the field and laboratory, associated groundwater and surface water sampling, and other environmental investigations
- Collect, validate, manage, analyze and interpret geochemical and water quality data using a variety of data management and statistical tools
- Perform water quality and geochemical modeling
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal, when working within teams, with peers and clients a determined by peer review and client feedback.
- To work within the broader mining, geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology and environmental consultancy business for SRK.
- Bachelor of Science Geology, Chemistry and/or Environmental Geoscience.
- Has a sound theoretical base with limited practical experience - Gathers facts and follows rules
- Displays sound active listening skills
- Beginning to develop the ability to adapt communication style to staff and clients at varied levels
- Effective team member; needs little direction
- Clearly communicates intent and priority of tasks / project work
- Has a high level of written and verbal communication skills including the ability to contribute accurate and audience tailored report writing with the aid of peer review and technical editing support
- Takes the lead to Initiate and makes decisions within allocated scope
- Is increasingly able to effectively manage self in day-to day-work
- Developing an understanding of project acquisition and execution under guidance
- Internal profile established, growing external awareness, mainly among past clients.
- Understands how consultants develop business and has participated in proposals writing, statements of capability and may be attending client meetings with more senior staff.
- Has an awareness of consulting financials, work delivery and quality and its financial impacts

The Consultant (Geochemistry) will have approximately 3 or more years experience in industry or a consulting environment.
