Manager: Access and Discovery

Based in the University Library Unit at the Mawson Lakes campus
- Full-time, continuing position
- Salary Range: $123,186 - $127,382 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

**About the Role**

The Manager: Access and Discovery is responsible for the development and delivery of effective and innovative Library services which provide access to resources across the University in support of teaching, learning and research. This includes the provision of Discovery Services platforms, the University’s research repository, Open Access, Special Collections, and the development and enhancement of metadata to support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Indigenous Knowledge and Research.

The University of South Australia Library supports the University’s teaching learning and research mission through provision of relevant information resources and associated services. The Library also coordinates copyright for the University. There are four campus libraries, located at City East, City West, Magill and Mawson Lakes as well as the Off Campus Library Service. Information technology and information resource management services are on the Mawson Lakes campus. The Library has a growing research collection with over 700,000 eBooks and online journals as well as print resources and archival collections.

The Library operates in an environment of increasing availability of digital information and demand and plays a significant role in training staff and students in information skills. The University has adopted a Digital Library Strategy to accelerate the acquisition of books in digital format and has adopted a next generation Library Management System as part of its commitment to making information resources accessible to the University community 24x7.

The Access and Discovery Team has responsibility for the description and discoverability of all resources and for the development and maintenance of major Library systems and authentication services, including the University Research Output Repository. The Manager: Access and Discovery provides a seamless client experience by leading a team that employs and maintains innovative systems and technologies through planning, project management, business process improvement and evaluation of services.

**Core Responsibilities**
- Manage, lead, and motivate the Access and Discovery team to meet strategic targets and continually improve business processes through judicious recruitment, performance planning and management, and training
- Ensure the Access and Discovery team possess the skills and core attributes to meet the goals and objectives of the Library in the provision of services and resources
- Manage the provision of metadata for information resources, to enable resource discovery for teaching, learning and research
- Develop and manage the Research Outputs Repository to ensure it meets all university stakeholder requirements and effectively showcases UniSA’s research to the world
- In conjunction with ISTS, identify, facilitate, and manage the introduction of technologies and services aligned with the strategic direction of the Library and the University

**Essential Skills and Experience**
- Relevant tertiary qualification (normally a degree) and extensive relevant knowledge, experience and skills and a commitment to ongoing professional development
- Significant experience developing and leading high performing teams, including the ability to implement continuous improvement of work practices and procedures
- Technical expertise and knowledge in the evaluation, acquisition and exploitation of sophisticated discovery and access tools and systems
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including demonstrated ability to build partnerships with other units within an organisation and external stakeholders including system developers and vendors
- Proficient analytical, research and writing skills to enable the provision of quality written reports and correspondence
